Fly Over States

I feel like SO MUCH has happened since my last blog post, but in reality most of my life is the same. I guess the biggest difference is that I GOT A NEW JOB! And I love it!

Here's my new office tower downtown. So swanky.

OPERATION NEW JOB basically took my life over for two weeks. The worrying, the anxiety...it's 'bout enough to drive a girl crazy. Not to mention the sadness over transitioning out of my beloved first job.

Sometimes being a grown-up just sucks, especially when you're basically a million miles away from your parents. Of course, I have my own little family down here in Texas, but the vulnerability that comes along with job searching...well, it can make you feel like you're 12 years old again. And every back-brace-wearing pre-teen needs a hug from her mama every now and then.

To remedy this odd homesickness, I indulged in a little soul comfort food. Some simple reminders of home:

1.) Thunderstorms...just like they make 'em in Kansas*.

*UPDATE: Storms are MUCH easier to enjoy when you have a basement to run to in case a real storm arises. Hiding under the staircase just doesn't do it for me. Since basements don't seem to be an option here in the hill country, I'm exploring the idea of a "safe-room" for our next home.

Jodie knows what's up.

2.) Speaking of Kansas, girlfran is a sucker for cheesy country songs. Put that sh*t on repeat.
Never mind the poor video quality and his mediocre lip-syncing skills.

3.) Down-home rattlesnakes. My macho-man helped our neighbors kill a tinsy snake-baby with a shovel last weekend.

Our biggest concern is that Buddy likes to socialize with everyone, and he certainly does not discriminate according to species.  I'm looking into a home supply of anti-venom. You only think I'm kidding.

4.) The Jayhawk Nation sure brings home a little closer.
God willing, we will put the hurt on North Carolina today at 4 PM.

Now don't get me wrong, Texas has its own comfort food:

1.) Most literally, in the form of Texas-shaped breakfast items. These are my homemade vanilla-bean waffles.

I needed to do a test-run before Easter brunch. I plan to serve these on my grandmother's fiiiiine china. Classy, right?

2.) Highway bluebonnets are blooming big-time this year.  It has rained like crazy this spring so my car is in a constant state of "PLEASE WASH ME."

Pretty sure this is God's way of saying
sorry about that.

Have a wonderful Sunday- Rock chalk!

All My Love,
Jessica

From a swanky building and new job to bluebonnets in bloom. You've got your bases covered. What an exciting life and how much for me to read about. You are a gifted young storyteller.
