The Misc. In My Life

Hey Hey Hey-

So I have few things that I feel need to be documented for posterity's sake- and I'm in no mood to weave them into some intricately designed story. Therefore, I'm going to hit ya with a few bullets (grammatical, not glock), and then you can move on with your day:
  • I made chili-butter bacon-wrapped scallops on Tuesday for dinner...and holy crap- they were madness. So good! I followed Pioneer Woman's recipe, and it could not have been any easier.

Sure, the scallops + bacon cost me about $15...but a trip to McDonald's would have cost
my little fam at least $10. Success.

Update: Because I broiled the scallops in the oven, our house has smelled like a wharf for 3 days now. Gross. Only cook these suckers on the grill...outside...when the wind is blowing
...like gale-force style.
  • This is the text conversation between my husband and I about the "alternative" work-out his troop was encouraged forced to participate in this week.
If this makes you giggle, you should see his reenactment. A real treat.
  • My friend Kerri is a finalist in the Lilly photo-contest. And here's the kicker, that's my dress!

She borrowed it for her hubby's homecoming. Obviously I will be voting every day, and you should too! Click here!

Live Life to Fullest Everyday! (Just kidding- I didn't how to end this post).

Furnish This

Yes, Yes. I am indeed alive and breathing. Sometimes you get just too busy living life to blog about it. Busy is good, busy means progress…but I’m ready to slow down a little and I want soak up the first drops of Spring. And I want to blog about it. And at 4:45 this morning, yours truly got her groove back.

Jon awoke at a crisp 4:30 AM to make it to morning PT. Typically, I stumble to kitchen to pack him a hodge-podge lunch and spill pour my lova some coffee, working mindlessly to the hummm of his razor. The puppy usually snoozes right through routine.

I usually crawl back under the covers as soon as Jon leaves to squeeze in another 45 minutes of sleep. However, Buddy was QUITE confused this morning.
He hopped up at the first sound of Jon’s quacking duck alarm (…so annoying) and he done bout lost his mind when he saw Jon put on his sexy army-standard calf-height socks. Those socks mean “WALK” in Buddy’s love language.

The look of disappointment on the bear’s face when Jon pulled out of the driveway was more than I could handle. So I put on my stretchy pants and off we went. It was rainy, but it was WARM, and it smelled like sweet, sweet Spring.
I felt rejuvenated after our neighborhood jaunt, ready to take on this drizzly Tuesday. I friggin’ threw two loads of laundry into the washer before the clock hit 7! I even had a moment to step back and admire our bedroom upgrade.
This is brought to you via my inlaws who drove a boat-load of furniture all the way from North Carolina, items we purchased over our Christmas vacation. I do love me some painted furniture, black in particular. We have recently completed major upgrades to the dining room and living room too (more to come on that in the following days).

We had a fabulous time with Jon’s parents and grandma. We spent a lot of time showing them around our new stomping grounds.
 Monument Market- Georgetown, TX

And we certainly put them to work and took advantage of their expertise.
Knob installation.

Jon’s mama even painted our entry table while we were at work!
Patti & I were somehow able to convince Jon to let us cover up this outdated pine table with a midnight purple. OH GLORIOUS COLOR.

Anyway- while admiring of our new master-bedroom, I realized how much the pieces in our room mean to us and how beautifully it all come together.

The main photo above the bed was a purchase Jon and I made in Outer-Banks of North Carolina.
It’s the Manteo, NC Lighthouse. We found it while taking cover from a massive downpour in a seaside art gallery. It is flanked by two of our fav engagement photos.

The gorgeous quilt is on loan indefinitely from Jon’s mother...we love it, and didn’t have a single blanket that would cover our new king bed.
I know I need to add some throw pillows- I’m working on it.

The side table is a painted radio box.
I’ve had it for two years now and I’m still in love. It was my first significant antique find. The lamp is from Crate & Barrel and came in the form of a birthday present from my mom. It’s probably the most contemporary item in our house.

Oh and that little boy in the picture, that’s my manly husband at the ripe age of 3.

My tinsy, beloved college desk still fits perfectly in our bedroom, allowing easy computer access...
...particularly for cruising the blog world during the twilight hour.

This piece came with the bedroom set and I think it's meant to be placed above the dresser, but works fabulously as a nearly-full-length mirror.
No more tub-standing-body-contortions necessary to evaluate my clothing ensembles. Win.

And sprinkled throughout the room, I have more honeymoon photos and seaside prints that complete the nautical theme.

These are from the Bob Timberlake gallery in the Mountains of North Carolina.

In other relevant news, we traded in my little Volvo for an SUV to deal with situations like this.
Don’t worry, we took off the previous owner’s “SAMEER” vanity plates, much to my objection.

I do love it, I feel like I’m driving a jumbo jet…super comfy and easy to handle.
The only thing I don’t like about it is the intense alarm system. Every time you lock or unlock the vehicle it makes 3 very audible **beeps**. People notice- it’s embarrassing.

Plus, I’m not a hip-hop mogul. I’m not really worried about someone stealing the heat out of my ride next to da club.
You know what I’m saying?
It’s just kind of over-the-top and unnecessary.

To quote my main-squeeze rapper...
“Goodnight. It’s over with. That’s all she wrote.” -T.I.

Toodles!

Woman Like You

Worst.Blogger.Ever.

Trust me, I know! I've just been preoccupied with other things this week. I'll do better- scout's honor.

Last night, I went up to Ft. Hood to participate in my first event as an "officer's spouse."
Luckily, Kerri did not throw me to the wolves, even after I spilled my cheap champagne and littered the floor with pita chips. Friendship is blind.

On my way home, I heard this song for the first time. I know I'm a sap, but I thought
this was so sweet.

I ask Jon all the time what he would be doing if he hadn't met me (typically post-martini...and because I'm super mature). His standard response is, "looking for you, DUH. And spending my monies on whatever I want." Sweet, I suppose.

If I hadn’t been so lucky, I’d be...
Shootin’ pool in my bachelor pad
Playing bass in my cover band
Restocking up cold Bud Light
For poker every Tuesday night, yeah
I’d have a dirt bike in the shed
And not one throw pillow on the bed
I’d keep my cash in a coffee can
But if I was a single man
Alone and out there on the loose
Well I’d be looking for a woman like you."

She knows what a mess I’d be if I didn’t have her here
But to be sure, I whispered in her ear
"You know I get sick deep-sea fishin’
And you make the best fried chicken
I got a hopeless golf game
I love the sound of your name
I might miss that old green ‘Nova
But I love watchin’ you do yoga
I’d take a gold band on my hand
Over being a single man
Cause honestly I don’t know what I’d do
If I’d never met a woman like you.

I was quite impressed when I got home last night. Jon spent his solo evening fertilizing the lawn, organizing the garage, and he even took out the trash. Perhaps I need to attend fundraisers more often!!

And to top it all off, he made me a smoothie this morning for the road.

It looked like throw-up in my gold solo cup, but it tasted like heaven.

I love him. Happy Weekend!

All My Love,
Jessica
